-
All Rhode Island residents must provide a certified background check (BCI). For additional information, please visit www.riag.ri.gov and choose the "Information on Background Checks" link.
-
Surplus Line Broker applicants must hold a Property & Casualty Insurance Producer license. They must also obtain a bond in the amount of $25,000 and email bond certificate to the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation.
-

-
Electronic applications will only be issued for a two (2) year license term.

-
All resident insurance producers that are selling, soliciting or negotiating insurance are required to carry and maintain E&O insurance, pursuant to Rhode Island Gen Laws § 27-2.4-23. Evidence is not required to be furnished.
-
Rhode Island only allows amendments to a license if license is active status.
-
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
-
Please choose your license type and line(s) of authority (LOA) carefully. Because the electronic application is 100% user driven, the Rhode Island Insurance Division will not honor a refund request if you apply for the wrong license by accident, if you apply for the same license more than once (back-to-back), or if you apply for the wrong LOA. If you do not see the line(s) of authority that you expect to see because you took an exam, please do not apply for a random LOA because it's available to you. It takes 3-5 days for the exam results to be reported to NIPR and when those results are reported, you will be able to apply for the applicable LOA. All LOA amendments must be processed through NIPR and there is a $50 amendment fee.
