Fees shown are state fees only. These fees do not include NIPR transaction fees.

  • Per application.
  • Additional fees:
    • $10 late fee applies if the renewal is submitted sixty (60) days or less from the license expiration date.
    • All fees are class based.
    • The full fee is to be reduced to a half fee if the license will be issued for a period of one (1) year or less. The filing fee is never reduced to a half fee. The license fee is based off when the application is submitted and when the expiration date is.

Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Submit partial renewals.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must hold an active renewable license in New York.

  • An active appointment is required prior to renewal for Property/Casualty Agent and Life/Accident & Health Agent license classes.

  • Renewal dates are determined by the expiration date of the license and the license type. Licenses are electronically renewable if the license is still active and the license expiration date occurs within the next one hundred and eighty (180) days.

  • If the applicant has a status reason of "License not yet up for Renewal" on PDB, the renewal will not be allowed.

  • Excess Lines applicants who reside in California must submit a bond in the amount of $50,000. Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.

  • Public Adjuster applicants must submit a bond in the amount of $1,000. Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.

  • Bail Bond applicants must submit a bond in the amount of $5,000. Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.

  • All active lines of authority will renew simultaneously (of those offered electronically through NIPR). No partial renewals will be accepted.

  • Individual applicants must provide a business and/or residence address that is not in New York. Note: If both the residence and business addresses are in NY, the transaction will be declined.

  • PO Box and Private Mailbox (PMB) are allowed in the mailing address field. IF PO Box or Private Mailbox (PMB) is supplied in the residence or business address field, the transaction will not be allowed.

  • Public Adjuster applicants are required to be compliant with Continuing Education (CE) prior to the renewal being allowed.

  • All Producers address information displayed on the application may not be the information currently on file with the New York State Insurance Department. Please visit the state website indicated below to verify and/or update address information currently on file with the New York Insurance Department.

  • Applicant applying for Excess Lines must hold an active Property and Casualty Broker license with Property and Casualty lines of authority.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • As soon as the license is issued, the applicant will be able to print electronically by accessing the Department's website. Use the Producer Search to determine if the license has been issued and the license number to print the license.

  • When attempting to access licensing applications, please include the alpha characters ('LA-','PC-','BR-' etc) in front of the New York license number.

  • Cybersecurity Regulation:
    • New York Department of Financial Services licensees are required to comply with Cybersecurity Regulation (23 NYCRR Part 500), which requires the establishment of a cybersecurity program to protect non-public information and has filing requirements that must be met.  A copy of the regulation, FAQs, and more information about cybersecurity can be found on the DFS Website.  Failure to implement a cybersecurity program and comply with the regulation could result in serious harm to your institution and may subject you to disciplinary action.
