Note: Please allow up to 1-2 business days after application has been approved for license printing availability.

Business Rules

Individual applicants - Applicant must be eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant’s date of birth.

Non-citizens of the U.S. must have a resident license for selling insurance in one of the fifty (50) U.S. states.

Applicant must use NRAR if within renewal period (30 days prior to expiration date - to 30 days past expiration date).

If applicant has had a license suspended or revoked in any state applicant must contact Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico directly for further direct direction to amend or apply for a license.

Independent or public adjusters may not hold any other license type concurrently.

Public adjusters are required to submit $10,000 bond.

There must be no serious RIRS actions for the applicant.

There must be no 1033 actions for the applicant.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

 

Adjuster Licensing Information (Individual)

Important Note: Applicants for following adjuster license may not act on behalf of a business entity in Puerto Rico. If the applicant will be adjusting on behalf of, or working for a business entity in Puerto Rico, the applicant must apply for an Authorized Person license for the same lines of authority as the business entity.

Please review the requirements below.

Public Adjusters:

  • Must not hold any other license type with Public Adjuster license.
  • Are required to submit a $10,000.00 bond in favor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico. A copy can be submitted after application is completed to cumplimiento@ocs.pr.gov in order to process the license but original bond is required for it to become valid. Bond must be notarized. If notary is outside of Puerto Rico, a copy of the Notary's certificate from the Secretary of State must be provided with bond.

Emergency Public Adjusters:

  • Must not hold any other license type with Emergency Public Adjuster license.
  • Are required to submit a $10,000.00 bond in favor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico. A copy can be submitted after application is completed to cumplimiento@ocs.pr.gov in order to process the license but original bond is required for it to become valid. Bond must be notarized. If notary is outside of Puerto Rico, a copy of the Notary's certificate from the Secretary of State must be provided with bond.
  • Submit a copy of driver's license and professional licenses, if applicable. Professional licenses may include, but not limited to real estate, attorney, accountant, etc.
  • Must submit required documentation by email to cumplimiento@ocs.pr.govwithin 15 days of submitting application. If documentation is not received within the 15 day period the license will be revoked. Applicant will need to reapply and resubmit license fee.
  • License will be issued for 6 months and will not be renewable. Some exceptions may be made if requested in person or in writing directly to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico.

Independent Adjuster:

  • Applicant must have an equivalent license in their resident state.
  • Puerto Rico does not allow Designated Home State applications.
  • Must not hold any other license type with Independent Adjuster license.

Emergency Independent Adjuster:

  • Must not hold any other license type with Emergency Independent Adjuster license.
  • Submit a copy of driver's license and professional licenses, if applicable. Professional licenses may include, but not limited to real estate, attorney, accountant, etc.
  • Must submit required documentation by email to cumplimiento@ocs.pr.govwithin 15 days of submitting application. If documentation is not received within the 15 day period the license will be revoked. Applicant will need to reapply and resubmit license fee.
