Licensee's name, Tax ID, license number, and state of residence must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.
The licensee's mailing address must be business entity's residence address or a P.O. Box.
Licensee must provide a valid country code, mailing address, business email, and business phone number.
Licensee may not renew a license in their own resident state.
Licensee must have an equivalent license for the requested Lines of Authority(s) in the requested non-resident state.
Licensee can renew their license through NRR through the date the license expires.
Licensees can renew their expired license through RLR up to 60 days after the license expires.
Licenses that need to be renewed more than sixty (60) days after expiration date must renew directly through the California's Department of Insurance website.
Non-Resident Insurance producer life only-agent must be actively held in order to renew Non-Resident Insurance Producer variable contracts or renew simultaneously.
Both life-only agent and accident and health agent lines must be renewed at the same time. Partial renewal for the lines is not allowed.
Both property broker-agent and casualty broker-agent lines must be renewed at the same time. Partial renewal for the lines is not allowed.
Applicant may not renew personal lines if property and casualty is actively held.
An active life-only agent license is required to renew brokering life settlement line of authority.
Property broker–agent and casualty broker–agent are required to renew surplus lines broker.
Property broker–agent and casualty broker–agent are required to renew special lines' surplus line broker.
Applicant's NPN must match current PDB record if applicable.
Non-Resident credit insurance agents must provide number of endorsees on the license renewal application.
There must be no serious:
- Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the licensee since last renewal.
- Special Activities Database (SAD) actions for the licensee since last renewal.

Name of business entity must be approved by California prior to submission of license application.
Sole proprietorship may not apply electronically using the business entity uniform application, they must apply as an individual. Section 6 - California NIPR product participation.
California licensees must complete and submit their own renewal application. As stated in section 1652(a) of the California Insurance Code, applicants must declare, under penalty of perjury, that the contents of the application are true and correct.
Section 1729.2 of the California Insurance Code requires a licensee to notify the department within thirty (30) days of the date the licensee learns of any change in their background information. For further clarification regarding this requirement, including the definition of background information, please refer to CIC 1729.2 or the California Department of Insurance website.
At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and have a resident or non-resident license in California.
The DRLPs provided on the producer and surplus lines application must cumulatively cover the Lines of Authority on the application.
The Designated Responsible Producer or Producers cumulatively must have equivalent non-resident license and cumulatively hold the requested Lines of Authority's in California.
The Designated Responsible Producers for limited line automobile insurance agent must hold an active property broker agent AND casualty broker agent OR personal lines OR a single limited lines automobile insurance agent license.
The Designated Responsible Producers for travel insurance agent must ALL actively hold property broker-agent AND casualty broker-agent OR life-only agent AND accident and health agent on PDB.
At least one Designated Responsible Producers for travel insurance agent must actively hold a Non-Resident property broker-agent AND casualty broker-agent OR life-only agent AND accident and health agent on PDB.
