Business Rules

  • Applicant must not hold another active resident license in another state.
     
  • Individual applicants are required to complete fingerprint and background check. Applicant must contact PSI 800-733-9267 or www.psiexams.com to determine the nearest location for the electronic fingerprint processing service if fingerprints have not already been submitted with exam results. Licenses will not be issued until an FBI Background Check Report is provided to the Idaho Department of Insurance. Documents can be uploaded to the NIPR Attachments Warehouse Additional Documents.
     
  • Individual applicants must provide a business and/or residence address in Idaho. Note: If both the residence and business addresses are not in ID, the transaction will be declined.
     
  • Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. Please submit legible copies of documents establishing your work eligibility (e.g., Work Visa/Green Card) to the NIPR Attachments Warehouse Additional Documents.
     
  • Public Adjuster and Independent Adjuster must be at least 21 years of age, as determined from the applicant’s date of birth. Individual applicants for all other license types must be at least 18 years of age.
     
  • All applications for Variable Life and Variable Annuity LOA must already have an active Idaho ‘Life’ Line of Authority (LOA) on the PDB or be applying for a Life LOA at the same time.
     
  • Applicants applying for Variable Life and Variable Annuity LOA must supply FINRA CRD# on the application.
     
  • Surplus Lines applicants must hold an active resident Insurance Producer license for Property & Casualty lines of authority for a minimum of 2 years (based on issue date) before applying for the Surplus lines license.
     
  • Applicants applying for the Public Adjuster license must forward an original $20,000 bond or irrevocable Letter of Credit in the amount of $20,000 to the following address: Idaho Dept of Insurance, P.O. Box 83720, Boise ID, 83720-0043.
     
  • Applicants applying for Bail Bond Agent license type will be deferred for bond requirement and appointment. Applicant must visit the following link and submit original bond in the amount of $15,000 and the COMPLETED AND SIGNED appointment form to: Idaho Dept of Insurance, P.O. Box 83720, Boise ID, 83720-0043
     
  • Applicants for Life Settlement Broker or Life Settlement Provider must have active Insurance Producer license with ‘Life’ line of authority.
     
  • Applicants for all license types will be allowed to late renew for up to one year past license expiration date. The status reason will be Expired. After one year past the expiration date, applicants will be allowed to apply through initial licensing application.
     
  • Applicants applying more than one year past the license expiration date will be treated as first-time applicants.
     
  • All instances of phone number must be a valid 10 digit phone number (extensions are allowed).
     
  • Managing General Agent applicants must hold an active Insurance Producer with Property and Casualty lines of authority.
     
  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The following documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax:
    • A written statement explaining the circumstances.
    • A copy of the charging document.
    • A copy of the official document which demonstrates the resolution of the charges or any final judgment.
       
  • Applicants with a status reason of Revoked cannot reapply for a period of five years from the date the license was revoked
    • Note: Rule is applied at the applicant level
       
  • Applicants with a status reason of Voluntary Surrender (PDB Code 64) must reapply as a new applicant regardless of expiration date.
