KANSAS CITY, Mo — Karen Stakem Hornig, CEO of the National Insurance Producer Registry's (NIPR), a Kansas City-based technology company, has been selected as a recipient of the Kansas City Business Journal's Women Who Mean Business award.

It is the 20th anniversary for the prestigious tribute that honors and celebrates women who continue to make strides in the local business community.

"I have heard many times since moving to Kansas City that WWMB is more than an awards program," said Karen Stakem Hornig, NIPR CEO. "WWMB alums describes it as a strong sisterhood that transcends business networking. To be welcomed into this group of women leaders who have set the course of success for so many others is exciting and humbling."

Hornig is one of 25 local businesswomen highlighted in their field, who have made significant contributions to the business community and have given back through philanthropy. A panel of six judges selected the honorees in this year's class.

The Maryland native took the helm at NIPR in 2014. Previously, she worked as Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the Maryland Insurance Administration and as Chief Legal Counsel for the Baltimore Police Department. Currently, she serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Tech Council and the Wornall Major House Museums. She is a member of the local region of the Jane Austen Society of North America and a past member of the Urban League of Kansas City Board.

Hornig and the other honorees will be celebrated at a luncheon on August 23 and will be featured in a special supplement to the weekly edition which will be released on that date.
