KANSAS CITY, Mo —The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) announced the selection of Larry D. Deiter as board president. Deiter is Director of the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation Division of Insurance. He replaces Wyoming's former insurance commissioner, Tom Glause.

Deiter had been serving as the NIPR's secretary/treasurer, a role now filled by Rhode Island's insurance superintendent, Beth Dwyer. Alaska Division of Insurance Director Lori Wing-Heier has also joined the NIPR board.

"We have a strong leadership team and I expect a smooth transition with Director Deiter at the helm," said Karen Stakem Hornig, NIPR CEO. "With such an engaged board I know we are well-positioned to serve our customers well."

Deiter was appointed Director of the South Dakota Division of Insurance on January 8, 2015. He had served as Assistant Director of Property and Casualty, Market Conduct and Investigations with the department since November 2012. Deiter has more than 25 years of experience in commercial banking and business management, which includes insurance product sales management. Prior to joining the public sector, he served as vice president/market manager of a publicly traded financial institution.

Dwyer was appointed Deputy Director and Superintendent of Insurance and Banking on January 11, 2016. Prior to this appointment she had been employed by the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation for fifteen years, first as General Counsel to the Insurance Division and later as Associate Director. Prior to government service, Dwyer was engaged in private law practice in California and Rhode Island specializing in litigation and insurance regulation.

Wing-Heier has served as Alaska's chief insurance regulator since her appointment in 2014. She has 30-years of experience in the insurance industry, including as a broker and an agent. Before joining the department, she served as the director of risk management at a large Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) corporation. Wing-Heier also served as senior vice-president at a national brokerage, working with Alaskan entities throughout the state; and as president of the Alaska Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers, Inc.

Their terms are effective immediately.
