Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial application for business entities electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Business Rules

  • Applicant's license number, state of residence and Tax ID must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.

  • Applicant may not apply for a license in their own resident state.

  • Applicants can reapply for a license if license has been inactive more than one (1) year with status reason of renewal payment not received, or license is inactive for any length of time with any status reason other than renewal payment not received.

  • At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must have an active resident or non-resident license in West Virginia.

  • Applicants applying for the Self Storage line of authority must submit a supervising entity (a supervising entity is business entity that is a licensed insurance producer (this is rare) or an insurer (common) to West Virginia. The required form is located at WV Self-Storage/Supervising Entity Form. Please email this form to oicagentlicensing@wv.gov .   • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
