License management
Apply for a license
To apply for a license in West Virginia, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth.
Renew a license
To renew a license in West Virginia, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR.

Cancel or surrender a line of authority
To cancel a license or surrender a line of authority complete the Agent/Agency License Surrender form. Follow the submission instructions included on the form.

To report a legal name change for an individual or entity, complete the Request for Address or Name Change form. Follow the submission instructions included on the form.

Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers
For changes related to affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs), visit LicenseHub.
Report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors

Understand residency type changes
- Transitioning from non-resident to resident status: If you are moving from another state, a letter of clearance (if provided by your current state) is required.
Changing from resident to non-resident status: If you are moving to another state, check with the state’s licensing department to determine if a letter of clearance is needed or if canceling your West Virginia license is sufficient.
Printing a West Virgina Letter of Clearance or Certification
You can print documentation in lieu of a letter of clearance or certification by visiting the Licensing and Education Division (Agents & Adjusters) page of the OIC website.
Select Licensee Lookup from the Links section on the right side of the page.
On the License Manager screen, select West Virginia as the jurisdiction.
Enter the required customer information.
Print the resulting page to serve as official documentation.
