Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit surplus lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Business Rules

  • Applicant applying for managing general agent and resident reinsurance intermediary must first hold an active producer license on the PDB before submitting applications.

  • If applying for a variable license, must provide FINRA CRD number if applicable.

  • Applicant with resident Utah license with an inactive status may reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application, if the previous license has been inactive for over one (1) year past the inactive date.

  • Applicant cannot amend license on a date past license expiration date. Applicant must reinstate through the Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.

  • Applicant with a non-resident Utah license in an active or inactive status may not reinstate electronically if status reason is deceased, denied, revoked, failure to maintain or surrendered in lieu of admin. Note: Applicant may amend license for a line of authority (LOA) that does not have one of the listed status reasons.

  • Applicants with the following status reasons may apply through initial applications at any time electronically: canceled.

  • Variable Life and Variable Annuity applicants must hold or apply for life in Utah within the same license class.

  • Surplus lines applicants must hold an active resident producer license in Utah with an equivalent active property and/or casualty line of authority (LOA).

  • Third Party Administrator applicants must submit documentation to the Utah Department of Insurance of the Insurance Policy or Surety Bond as Required by Utah Code Annotated Section 31A-25-205. Please fax to Utah Department of Insurance.

  • If applying for the license type surplus lines, then applicant is required to have at least three (3) years business experience holding a resident producer license resident producer individual with equivalent property and/or casualty qualification in Utah.

  • The consultant license requires experience of at least three (3) of the last four (4) years in a capacity that prepares individuals to act as a consultant.

  • Applicant must renew all active lines under the requested license.

  • Applicant is exempt from the license exam if applicant applies within ninety (90) days of cancellation of their former resident state's license.

  • Applicant with a resident Utah license in inactive status may reapply if the previous license has been inactive for over one (1) year past the inactive date.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • All individual Producers and Consultants must read the Utah HB 205 notice
