- NIPR and State fees are non-refundable.
- If CE is not completed by license expiration date, an additional CE late fee will be applied:
- 1-30 days after expiration: $125 total ($75 renewal fee + $50 late CE fee)
- 31-60 days after expiration: $175 total ($125 renewal fee + $50 late CE fee)
- 61-180 days after expiration: $325 total ($275 renewal fee + $50 late CE fee)

Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
- Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
- Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
- Submit partial renewals.
- Print license electronically.
Business Rules
Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.
No more than six (6) digits allowed for business phone number extensions.
Applicant must provide a residence and/or business address in South Carolina.
Residence and business address must not be P.O. Box.
Applicant must not have an active non-resident license in South Carolina.
Applicant cannot renew if an active resident license exists in another state on PDB.
Producers may reinstate the license and appointment(s) that have expired, if within six months of the compliance deadline.
Applicant must submit a Resident Renewal application, a penalty fee has been paid, and complete a total of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education credits.
The license and appointment(s) of a producer who do not reinstate within six (6) months of the compliance deadline will be made inactive. To become licensed again, the producer must retake and pass the appropriate producer licensing examination, complete a new resident licensing application, submit new fingerprints, and pay a license fee.
All bondsman applicants - Professional Bondsman, Surety Bondsman, Runner Bondsman - must have resident, business, AND mailing address in South Carolina.
Applicants renewing a Professional Bondsman, Surety Bondsman, or Runner Bondsman license must obtain proof of background check and fingerprints. Please retain the copy of the receipt for your records.
Professional Bondsman, Surety Bondsman, and Runner Bondsman licensees must complete continuing education (CE) prior to renewal.
Runner Bondsman must be associated with a Professional Bondsman or Surety Bondsman prior to renewal. Application for renewal will not be accepted if Runner Bondsman is not associated with an an active bondsman.
Surety Bondsman must be associated with an Insurance Producer.
Insurance Producer licensees holding only Travel line of authority are exempt from renewing, but applicant is still required to submit FBI background check to South Carolina Department of Insurance before license can be renewed by the state. Applicant can submit documentation to agentmail@doi.sc.gov or fax to 803-737-6100.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Continuing Education
- NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date. It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
- South Carolina CE Exemption Notice
- South Carolina has passed a law allowing resident producers to apply for CE exemption if they have 25 or more years of licensure and are aged 65 or older. Please refer to South Carolina Bulletin 2022-04 for additional information.
- Producers may reinstate the license and appointment(s) that have expired, if within 180 days of the compliance deadline, a $50 penalty fee has been paid to the South Carolina Department of Insurance, and proof of completion of a total of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education credits has been received by the Continuing Education Administrator.
The license and appointment(s) of a producer who does not provide documentation of compliance within 180 days of the compliance deadline will be made inactive. To become licensed again, the producer must retake and pass the appropriate producer licensing examination, complete a new application, submit to new fingerprints, and pay a license fee to the Department.
