Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
  • Print Licenses Electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active business entity license (not applicable).
  • Submit application for surplus lines for business entity.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must not hold an active resident license in another state.

  • Applicant must provide residence, business and mailing addresses. Residence address must not contain a P.O. Box.

  • Non-citizens of the U.S. must have a resident license for selling insurance in one of the fifty (50) U.S. states.

  • Applicant’s National Producer Number (NPN) must match current PDB record, if applicable.

  • If applicant has status reason Failure to Renew, they are sent to Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application if within one (1) year of the expiration date. If over one (1) year, they go through normally. Applicants with no status reasons should not be allowed to reinstate.

  • Licenses with a status reason of canceled for cause, revoked and suspended may not reapply for a license.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • Variable applicants must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

  • Variable applicants must hold Mississippi life license or apply for life license in order to be eligible for variable life and variable annuity products.

  • Surplus lines insurance producer applicants must already hold an active insurance producer with LOA property, casualty, and/or personal lines

  • Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) Rules:
    • At least one (1) DRLP must be provided on the application. This excludes Portable Electronics, Third Party Administrator, Viatical Settlement Broker Entity, Viatical Settlement Provider, Viatical Settlement Representative Entity applicants.
    • The DRLP must have an active Mississippi license on the Producer Database (PDB). This excludes Portable Electronics, Third Party Administrator, Viatical Settlement Broker Entity, Viatical Settlement Provider, Viatical Settlement Representative Entity applicants.
    • Insurance Producer Entity’s DRLP must actively hold an Insurance Producer.
    • Public Adjuster applicants must provide a DRLP that is actively licensed in Mississippi as a public adjuster.
    • Reinsurance Intermediary Broker or Reinsurance Intermediary Manager applicants must provide at least one DRLP that is actively license in Mississippi for Reinsurance Intermediary Broker or Reinsurance Intermediary Manager or Insurance Producer with any Line of Authority.
    • Limited Lines Travel Insurance Producer Business Entity applicants must provide a DRLP that is actively licensed in MS for a Limited Lines Insurance Producer with Travel or Insurance Producer with Property and Casualty.
    • Supervising General Agent Entity's DRLP must hold a Supervising General Agent or Insurance Producer license.
    • Managing General Agent's DRLP must hold a Managing General Agent or Insurance Producer license.
    • Limited Lines Self-Storage Insurance Producer Entity's DRLP must actively hold a Limited Lines Self-Storage Insurance Producer or Insurance Producer license with Property and Casualty lines of authority.
