  • $15.00 Application Fee is charged for each license class offered to an individual. This fee applies to first time or amended licenses and reinstatements. There will always be at least a $100.00 charge in addition to the application fee for an individual.
  • Reinstatement applies when a license is one (1) day through one (1) year past the expiration date.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.

  • There must be no serious RIRS actions or 1033 actions for the applicant. Please contact the state for additional information, if applicable.

  • Employment history is required for all individual applicants for the past five (5) years contiguously with no gaps to current date. This includes full and part-time work, self-employment, military service, unemployment and full-time education.

  • Applicant must provide a valid mailing address and business address. P.O Boxes are not allowed. Applicant must provide a valid mailing and business address. The business address must be in the state of Georgia.

  • Applicants who are non-citizen must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. to the state of Georgia.

  • The following licenses types are required to take examinations prior to applying for Georgia resident license: agent-residents, surplus lines, adjusters, and limited counselors-health. These application will be deferred to the state for verification of exams and scores.

  • Applicants for the variable line of authority (LOA) must supply FINRA CRD number on application and hold or apply for life within the same application.

  • Public adjuster-resident license applicants must select both public adjuster casualty and public adjuster property LOAs.

  • Personal lines applicants cannot apply if they actively hold both property and casualty LOAs.

  • Surplus lines applicants:
    • A waiver of examination can be granted if applicant holds CPCU designation. Submit proof of CPCU designation to application and send directly to the state.
      • Waiver of examination can be granted if applicant was previously licensed for same lines in prior home state; license in that state must be active at the time of moving to Georgia, applicant must submit original clearance letter from prior home state and must apply for licensure within ninety (90) days of the date of the move to Georgia.
         
  • Applicants must hold an active Georgia agent - resident property & agent - resident casualty as an agent to be eligible for surplus lines.
    • Applicants must hold an active Georgia agent – resident property & agent – resident casualty as an agent to be eligible for surplus lines.
    • Completion of $50,000 surplus lines bond required for licensing. Click here to print the bond form and send to the state.
  • Applications for “inactive” or “cancelled” licenses with a status reason other than “failure to renew” or “canceled for continuing education- reinstatable” will be allowed through Resident License (RL) Application. If they do hold these statuses these licenses are considered reinstatements and should use Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • Beginning January 1st, 2012, the Georgia Department of Insurance requires every applicant to verify proof of lawful presence in the United States by submitting the following documents along with the application:

  • A signed and notarized copy of a Citizenship Affidavit Form; and

  • A copy of one secure and verifiable identification document.

  • All applicants will be required to submit these documents with the application before the application can be processed.You may scan the documents and submit them to the state via mail, email, or fax.
