Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for Surplus Lines for individuals.
  • Submit late renewals through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Renew partial lines.

Business Rules

  • An affiliation is not required, and the applicant may skip the Affiliations page on the uniform application.

  • Insurance Producers and PA 187 Travel applicants can late renew up to one (1) year after the expiration date with additional fees. After one (1) year applicant will need to reapply through the Resident License (RL) Application. Late renewals for licenses with a status reason code other than Non-Renewal are not allowed

  • Insurance Producer Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with Variable Life and Variable Annuities
    • Applicants must supply the FINRA CRD in the application for Variable Life and Variable Annuities
  • Insurance Producer with Life Settlement Registration LOA 
    • Applicant must have held an active Insurance Producer Life license for at least one year to apply for a Life Settlement authority.
    • Applicant cannot add multiple lines of authority to Insurance Producer license when adding Life Settlement
    • Reapplications - Insurance Producer Life must first be approved and displayed on the Producer Database before adding the Life Settlement line of authority to license.
  • Fraternal Agent Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with Fraternal Agent Variable Life and Variable Annuities.

  • Surplus Lines applicants must actively hold Insurance Producer with single Property and Casualty lines of authority to renew.

  • Life Settlement Broker
  • Reinsurance Intermediary Broker and Reinsurance Intermediary Manager
  • Surety Bail Bond Agent
  • Third Party Administrator/ Third Party Administrator and Third Party Administrator/ Third Party Administrator Registration cannot be renewed simultaneously.
    • Third Party Administrator - Registration applicants must submit the following document to the Connecticut Insurance Department: Registration application - https://portal.ct.gov/CID/Licensing/Third-Party-Administrators . Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.
  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • Renewal applications will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. The applicant will receive email notification from Connecticut once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for the approved license at:  www.ct.gov/cid.  Under General Information, On the home page, select Licensing. On Licensing’s Home Page, select Verify and Print a License.

Continuing Education

NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date.  It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
