Business Rules

  • Applicant cannot late renew if status of license is inactive. Applicant must reinstate or reapply through the NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.

  • Applicants renewing Variable lines of authority (LOA) must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

  • Insurance Producer Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with insurance producer Variable Life and Variable Annuities.

  • Fraternal Agent Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with Fraternal Agent Variable Life and Variable Annuities.

  • Applicant must hold active single lines of Property and Casualty as an insurance producer or renew simultaneously to be eligible for Surplus Lines renewal.

  • Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraisers, Public Adjuster, PA 187 Travel, Certified Insurance Consultant, Fraternal Agent, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker, Reinsurance Intermediary Manager and Surplus Lines applicants cannot enter 'Doing Business As '(DBA) name.

  • An affiliation is not required, and the applicant may skip the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

  • Applicant must renew all lines on the renewal license as Certified Education (CE) requirements must be met in all current LOAs. Applicant may apply to amend license after the renewal is issued. If your CE credits are completed and have been posted by your provider, you may check for your APPROVED license at:  www.ct.gov/cid under "General Information" select "Print and Verify a License." To verify your CE status, you may call Prometric at (888)797-9776 or visit their website at www.prometric.com.

  • CE is required but credits are NOT validated through NIPR. Applicants will renew electronically, and the transactions will be deferred to state for review of CE.

  • Late renewals for licenses with a status reason code other than Non-Renewal are not allowed.

  • Surplus Lines, Casualty Adjusters, Public Adjusters, Certified Insurance Consultant, Fraternal Agents, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker, Reinsurance Intermediary Manager and MVPD Appraisers cannot late renew. On the day after license expiration date, the applicant must reinstate.

  • Connecticut allows a late renewal period for Insurance Producers and PA 187 Travel of one (1) year after expiration date with additional fees. After one (1) year applicant will need to reapply through the Resident License (RL) Application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • Renewal applications will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. The applicant will receive email notification from Connecticut once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for the approved license at:  www.ct.gov/cid.  Under "General Information" select Verify and Print a License."

Surplus Lines

Renewal Period:

  • Starts: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date.
  • Ends: Biennially before license expiration date (September 30 – even years).
  • NIPR does not verify compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application, however compliance is required prior to the states approval of the request.  You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date.  It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
  • Continuing Education (CE) will be checked by Connecticut Department of Insurance once the application is received.
