- NIPR verifies exams prior to allowing submission of an application.
- Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraisers, Public Adjusters, Certified Insurance Consultant, Fraternal Agents, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker, Reinsurance Intermediary Manager, and Surplus Lines Life Settlement Broker and Surety Bail Bond Agent applicants may reinstate the day after the expiration date for up to 2 years. After 2 years must retake the exam.
- Applicants reinstating for Surety Bond Agent must pass required exam immediately following license expiration date.

Applicant Can
- Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
- Submit for major lines of authority.
- Submit for limited lines of authority.
- Submit for Surplus Lines for individuals.
- Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
- Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
- Print licenses electronically.
Business Rules
Insurance Producer:
- Passing Exams:
If an applicant has recently passed an Insurance Producer exam and the requested line of authority is not showing on the application under license type “Insurance Producer.”
DO NOT select any lines of authority under the Fraternal Agent or Certified Insurance Consultant License.
Applicant must wait 1-3 business days from passing the exam for the results to upload to NIPR and you are able to submit the application.
- Renewing:
If an applicant is attempting to renew after the expiration date, click Renew an Existing License.
Do not apply for a new license under a different license class.
Refunds will not be granted.
If applicant has questions or is unsure of what license to select, email Connecticut directly at: cid.licensing@ct.gov before the application is submitted.
Applicant must renew the license before you will be allowed to apply for additional lines/amending.
- Variable Life and Variable Annuities Authority:
- Life LOA must actively hold or be applying renewed in conjunction with Variable Life and Variable Annuities.
- Applicants must supply the FINRA CRD (and be actively registered with a broker/dealer).
Insurance Producer and PA 187:
If a license has been inactive for more than one year past expiration date, the licensee must reinstate through (RL) application.
- DBA (doing business as) name is allowed. All other license types are prohibited.
- Insurance Producer with Life Settlement Registration LOA:
- Applicant must have held an active Insurance Producer Life license for at least one year to apply for a Life Settlement authority.
- Applicant cannot add multiple lines of authority to Insurance Producer license when adding Life Settlement Registration.
- Reapplications - Insurance Producer Life must first be approved and displayed on the Producer Database before adding the Life Settlement line of authority to license.
Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraisers, Public Adjusters, Certified Insurance Consultant, and Surplus Lines:
- Applicants may reinstate the day after the expiration date for up to 2 years.
- After the 2 years you must retake the exam.
Fraternal Agents, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker, Reinsurance Intermediary Manager, and Life Settlement Broker:
- Applicants may reinstate the day after expiration date for up to 2 years.
There is no exam requirement for any of these license types.
Fraternal Agent Variable Life and Variable Annuity:
- Applicants must actively hold or apply in conjunction with Fraternal Agent Life.
Applicants must supply the FINRA CRD (and be actively registered with a broker/dealer).
Casualty Adjuster applicants cannot apply for more than one line of authority within the license class on the same application.
Surplus Lines applicants must actively hold both single lines of Property and Casualty under the Insurance Producer license class prior to submitting the Surplus Lines Broker application.

All License Types: An affiliation is not required, and the applicant may proceed past the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.
Your application information will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. You will receive an email notification from the State once the LICENSE has been APPROVED.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
