Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit Adjuster for individuals electronically.
  • Submits Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) electronically.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal No Home State Application.
  • Partially renew license.

Business Rules

  • Public Adjusters cannot designate a home state. Must hold license in resident state and renew through NRL.

  • Applicant must renew the license before applying for additional lines/ amending.

  • An affiliation is not required and the applicant may proceed past the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

  • Applicant may choose to change the home state license currently on record.

  • Applicant may NOT select Connecticut as Adjuster Designated Home State while applying for a Non Resident CT license.

  • Casualty Adjusters and MVPD applicants

    • Can reinstate the day after the expiration date.
    • Cannot enter 'Doing Business As" (DBA) name.

  • Designated Home State (ADHS) Rules:
    • In order for an applicant to designate a home state during the renewal process, the applicant must have an active non-resident Adjuster license on the Producer Database (PDB) and no active resident adjuster license.
    • If designated home state license is inactive at the time of renewal and no active resident Adjuster license exists, applicant may select another state with an active Adjuster license as the designated home state.  
    • If applicant holds only a non-resident Adjuster license in a state that licenses resident Adjusters, applicant is permitted to designate an active non-resident Adjuster license as their home state license.   
    • If applicant holds only an active non-resident Adjuster license in a state that offers Adjuster licensing, applicant must use current resident license to renew non-resident Adjuster license 
    • If applicant has an active non-resident Adjuster license in a state that does not license adjusters, and no active non-resident Adjuster license, applicant must use current active resident license to renew non-resident Adjuster license.
  • The application information will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. The applicant will receive email notification from the State once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for your approved license at:  www.ct.gov/cid.  Under "Industry," select Verify and Print a License." 

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
