Business Rules
- Licensing Specific Requirements:
- Applicants that are required to submit supplemental documentation will need to visit WAOIC website for required forms and additional information. Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.
- Applicant must provide a valid email address as their point of contact for all WA State licensing matters.
- Application for Insurance Producers must be coordinated with WAOIC.
- Renewals Procedures:
- All available active lines must be renewed at the same time.
- Applicant must contact the department in writing (email preferred) if LOAs need to be removed and not renewed.
- Life Settlement Broker Applicants
- Applicants applying for Life Settlement Broker license must also hold an active Insurance Producer Life license.
- All Life Settlement Broker applications will defer to the WA OIC for review and approval.
- Portable Electronics:
- Applicants must submit at least one actively licensed affiliated individual in Washington as a resident or a non-resident.
- Applicants must submit at least one actively licensed Insurance Provider affiliate with Property and Casualty Line of Authority.
- Affiliation Submission Specifications:
- When a business entity applies for an Insurance Producer license, the following affiliations are required to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements:
- Surety License: Affiliated individual with an active license in Casualty or Surety.
- Casualty License: Affiliated individual with an active license in Casualty or Surety.
- Property License: Affiliated individual with an active license in Personal Lines, Casualty, or Surety.
- Personal Lines License: Affiliated individual with an active license in Personal Lines, Casualty, or Surety.
- Credit License: Affiliated individual with an active license in any major line or Credit.
- Any Major Line License: Affiliated individual with an active license in any major line or Credit.
- Insurance Producer:
- Applicants must submit at least one actively licensed affiliated individual in Washington as a resident or a non-resident.
- Each affiliated individual must hold an active Washington license on the Producer Database (PDB) for the class in which the business entity is applying.
- At least one active line of authority of each affiliated individual must match at least one line of authority requested by the business entity.
- Affiliations can only be removed during the renewal process.
- Applicants must supply only one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer. This DRLP must:
- have at least one active line of authority that matches at least one line of authority requested by the Business Entity.
- also be listed as an affiliated individual.
- Travel Exception - For a business entity applying for an Insurance Producer Travel license, the Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must actively hold an Insurance Producer Travel license.
- Affiliations:
- After a license has been issued, but prior to representing a business entity, applicant must be affiliated. Affiliations can be completed by the business entity on the Washington state website.
- A Business Entity must not be submitted as an affiliation.
- Background Questions:
- If applicant responds "Yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via secure email (contact OIC for information on how to submit).
Renewal Periods
All License Classes
- Renewal Period Begins: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date.
Renewal Period Ends: Expiration Date.
Late Renewal Period Begins: One (1) day through thirty (30) days after expiration date – with penalty fee.
Extended Late Renewal Period Begins: Thirty - one (31) day through sixty (60) days after expiration date – with additional penalty fee.
