Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit partial renewals.

Business Rules

  • Licensing Specific Requirements:   
    • Applicants that are required to submit supplemental documentation will need to visit WAOIC website for required forms and additional information. Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.   
    • Applicant must provide a valid email address as their point of contact for all WA State licensing matters. 
  • Renewal Procedures:   
    • All available active lines must be renewed at the same time.   
    • Applicants must contact the department in writing (email preferred) if LOAs need to be removed and not renewed.   
  • Life Settlement Broker Applicants: 
    • Applicants applying for Life Settlement Broker license must also hold an active Insurance Producer Life license. 
    • All Life Settlement Broker applications will defer to the WA OIC for review and approval.
  • Insurance Producer:  
    • Travel Exception –  
    • Allow applicants to apply for Insurance Producer TRAVEL authority in Washington if a Limited Lines Insurance Producer – Limited Lines P&C is actively held in VA (res state). 
  • Affiliations:   
    • After a license has been issued but prior to representing a business entity, applicant must be affiliated. Affiliations can be completed by the business entity on the Washington state website or through NIPR initial applications on a new business entity application.
  • Background Questions:   
    • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via secure email (contact OIC for information on how to submit). 

Renewal Periods

All License Classes

Renewal Period: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date.

Renewal Period Ends: Last day of birth month 

Late Renewal Period Begins: One (1) day through thirty (30) days after expiration date – with penalty fee. 

Extended Late Renewal Period Begins: Thirty- One (31) day through sixty (60) days after expiration date – with additional penalty fee.
