- License-specific Requirements
- Insurance Producer Variable Contracts
- Applicant must renew Virginia Producer Life and Annuities to hold Producer Variable Contracts.
- Consultant:
- Applicants cannot renew a Property & Casualty Consultant license if a Life & Health Consultant license has already been renewed and vice versa.
- Surplus Lines
- Residents must certify that they will keep a $25,000 bond in force in favor of the Commonwealth for as long as the license is effective.
- The minimum Annual Surplus Lines Brokers Assessment is $300 and is required even if no business was transacted. Once you have keyed in your Virginia license number, the system will automatically calculate the assessment amount due based on the taxable premium entered. You can print the report and mail it with a check to the address noted on the report, or you can file and pay electronically by selecting the File and Pay Assessment button.
- Applicant must actively hold Insurance Producer Property and Casualty on Producer Database to request Surplus Lines Broker license.
- Viatical Settlement Broker:
A Broker (VSB) must first obtain a written agreement from the Viator before performing and services or obtaining any compensation from the Viator.
- Effective July 1, 2023, a broker (VSB) will affirm when submitting an initial or renewal application that they will or have implemented and operated antifraud initiatives reasonably calculated to detect, prosecute, and prevent fraudulent viatical settlement acts (or life settlement acts) in compliance with § 38.2-6011.E of the Code of Virginia from the effective date of initial licensure as a viatical settlement broker (or life settlement broker) in Virginia and further certify that they will maintain the operation of these antifraud initiatives while they continue to be licensed as a Virginia viatical settlement broker (of life settlement broker). Brokers (VSB) are not required to provide an updated copy of the antifraud plan to the Commission unless requested. This replaces the form filing requirement and the annual March 1 filing. Questions concerning compliance may be sent to AgentLicensing@scc.virginia.gov.
