Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.
  • Partial renewals allowed.
  • License printing available electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.

Business Rules

  • Partial renewals are permitted. Any lines of authority not selected for renewal will be deactivated upon submission of the renewal application.

  • An applicant may hold only one resident license. Vermont must be the applicant’s resident state in order to renew a Vermont resident license.

  • At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application.

  • The license must be in active status to be eligible for renewal.

  • Please allow up to 10 business days to process the application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

    • If additional documentation is required, it must be submitted within 30 days of the application.

  • Renewal Cycle Information

    • Business entity licenses do not run for a full two-year term from the date of issuance.
      • Licenses issued between January 1 and March 31 of an odd-numbered renewal year will expire on March 31 of that same year.
      • Licenses issued after March 31 of an odd-numbered renewal year will expire on March 31 of the next odd-numbered year.
    • All Vermont business entity licenses expire on March 31 of odd-numbered years.
