Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit Non Resident Adjuster License (NRAL) through Non Resident License (NRL) application for business entities.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit surplus lines for business entities.

Business Rules

  • Applicant cannot late renew an inactive resident or non-resident license. Applicant must reinstate or reapply through NIPR’s Non-Resident License (NRL) Application after one (1) year past expiration date.

  • Applicant cannot amend license on a date past license expiration date. Applicant must reinstate through the Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application if within one (1) year past expiration date..

  • Applicant with a non-resident Utah license in an active or inactive status may not reinstate electronically if status reason is deceased, denied, revoked, failure to maintain or surrendered in lieu of admin. Note: Applicant may amend license for a line of authority (LOA) that does not have one of the listed status reasons.

  • Applicants with the following status reasons may apply through initial applications at any time electronically: canceled.

  • Surplus lines applicants must actively hold both single lines of non-resident producer property and non-resident producer casualty on the PDB.

  • Applicants applying for a reinsurance intermediary license must first hold an active non-resident producer license with equivalent LOAs.

  • All Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs) provided on the application must have an active license in Utah and must cumulatively cover the cost of the requested LOAs, excluding third party administrators (TPAs).

  • The DRLP on managing general agent applications must hold a resident or non-resident Utah managing general agent or producer license.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
