Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit adjuster for individuals electronically.
  • Submit adjuster for business entities electronically. Please use Non-Resident Licensing Application.
  • Submit Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) electronically.
  • Reinstate a license electronically.
  • Add lines of authority to an existing active license electronically.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit adjuster for business entities electronically. Business entities will apply through Non-Resident Licensing rather than Non-Resident Adjuster Licensing.

Business Rules

  • Effective October of each year, the Division of Banking, Insurance and Financial Regulation begins the process of renewing insurance licenses for the upcoming calendar year. Any license applied for before September 30th will expire December 31st of that same year.

  • Applicant must supply residence, business, or mailing address.

  • Post Office (P.O.) Box is not allowed for business address.

  • Initial individual adjuster licenses are issued to expire annually on December 31st.

  • If application is received between October and December, applicant will need to pay full licensing fee. No prorating and no blackout periods and license will expire December 31st of the following year.

  • Emergency Independent Adjuster will need to provide the company name and company NAIC code (cocode) for the carrier they will represent on the state specific questions page if the application.

  • All Applicants must provide an original copy of their current license or a letter of certificate from state of domicile showing the issuance as well as the expiration date.

  • Applicants must late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Adjuster Renewal Application if license is inactive and within one (1) year of license expiration date.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.

  • Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) - Business Rules (exclude Public Adjusters)
    • Applicant will need to provide the name of the state where they passed an adjuster examination in the state specific questions page of the application. If applicant did not pass an exam, the application will be rejected.
    • The ADHS selected MUST have an active non-resident adjuster license on the Producer Database.
    • In order for an applicant to designate a home state, the applicant MUST NOT have an active resident adjuster license on the Producer Database in any state.
    • Applicants that have an active resident producer (non-adjuster) license and no active resident adjuster license may not apply for an adjuster license using the resident producer (non-adjuster) license.
    • Applicant may not select the U.S. Virgin Islands as Adjuster Designated Home State while applying for their Non Resident U.S. Virgin Islands license.
  • Public Adjusters may not select a designated home state.
