License management

Apply for a license

To apply for a license in US Virgin Islands, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth. 

Renew a license

To renew a license in US Virgin Islands, visit LicenseHub.

If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR.

Cancel or surrender a line of authority

To cancel or surrender a line of authority, send an email or letter to the Division of Banking and Insurance (DBI). The request should include the person’s full name and signature, along with the license and/or line(s) of authority to be canceled.  


Email the change to Gail.Danet-Joseph@LGO.VI.gov or mail it to her attention at the mailing address on the bottom of this page.  

Information updates

Report a legal name change – individual or entity

To report a legal name change for an individual or entity, submit a letter to the DBI with supporting documentation and applicable fees.
For guidance on the type(s) of documentation required for this notification, email Gail.Danet-Joseph@LGO.VI.gov.

Update contact information – individual or entity

To update contact information for insurance professionals, visit the LicenseHub. Find more information on the contact update process on our Contact Change Request page.

Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers

Changes to affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs) should be submitted by sending a letter to DBI. There are no fees to report changes to DRLPs. The request should include the name and license number of the entity and the full name of the DRLP you are adding or deleting.

Report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors

Changes to Owners, Partners, Officers or Directors (OPOD) should be submitted by sending a letter to DBI. There are no fees to report these changes.  

The request should include the name and license number of the entity and the full name and title of the OPOD you are adding or deleting. Email the letter to Gail.Danet-Joseph@LGO.VI.gov.  

Understand residency type changes 

Changes to U.S. Virgin Island residency should be submitted by sending a letter to DBI. There are no fees to report these changes. 

The request should include the name and license number of the licensee and the new resident state if moving from the U.S. Virgin Islands, or the previous resident state if moving to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Email the letter to Gail.Danet-Joseph@LGO.VI.gov

Find exam score validity period

Insurance exam scores in US Virgin Islands are valid for 5 Years.
