Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Submit partial renewals.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.

  • No more than six (6) digits allowed for business phone number extensions.

  • Applicant's addresses must match current PDB record for resident state.

  • Applicant must not have an active resident license in South Carolina.

  • Applicant's resident license must be on record.

  • If applicant holds an Insurance Producer license with only a Travel line of authority (LOA), the applicant is exempt from renewing. If the applicant holds any other line they are required to renew.

  • Applicants renewing Surplus Lines Broker license must be actively licensed in resident state as a Surplus Lines Broker or have the excess/surplus line of authority.

  • Late renewals begin the day after the license expiration up to 180 days past the expiration date. Late renewals will only be allowed if the license is inactive with status reason Not Renewed or Lapse. After 180 days, the applicant will apply through NIPR's Non-Resident Licensing (NRL).

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
