Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Renew partial lines.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old as determined from the applicant's date of birth.

  • There must be no serious RIRS actions or 1033 actions for the applicant. Please contact the state for additional information, if applicable.

  • Applicant must be in continuing education (CE) compliance prior to submitting renewal application. If CE has been completed, please allow two (2) to three (3) business days for it to post on PDB.

  • Authorized Person applicants must complete the 'Agency or Business Entity Affiliations' page in the online application.

  • Authorized Person renewing line of authority of Surplus Lines Broker must also renew Property and Casualty lines of authority under the same license class and list an "Agency or Business Entity Affiliation' that holds a Surplus Lines Broker license in the application.

  • Consultant applicants are required to submit a $25,000.00 bond to the state. Application will be deferred to the state for verification.

  • Applicants renewing for Limited life, Viatical Settlements Investment Agent, Authorized Representative, Attorney in Fact, General Agent, Manager, or Reinsurance Intermediary Manager must have an active appointment on the Producer Database.

  • The following lines of authority must be renewed together under the same license class:

    • Life with Variable Life and Variable Annuity
    • Health Services with Disability
    • Property with Casualty
  • Applicant must reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application, thirty (30) days after expiration date or if license has a "voluntary surrender" status reason.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Renewal Periods

All License Classes

Renewal Period:

  • Renewal Period Begins: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration.
  • Renewal Period Ends: Expiration date.
  • Late Renewal Period Begins: One (1) day past expiration date.
  • Late Renewal Period Ends: One (1) month past expiration date.

 

Continuing Education

NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date.  It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
