Apply for a license

To apply for a license in Puerto Rico, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth. 

Renew a license

To renew a license in Puerto Rico, visit LicenseHub.

If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR.

Information updates

Report a legal name change – individual or entity

To report a legal name change for an individual or entity:  

Individual: Individual: Documentation required: Documentation that will be accepted; Court Resolution, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Affidavit, or Marriage Certificate

Entity: Documentation required: Department of State Authorization and Corporate Resolution. A physical copy of the Corporate Resolution must be sent via mail or delivered in person to Puerto Rico Department of Insurance

Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers

Submit changes to affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers(DRLPs) via the LicenseHub.

Residents: Documentation is required to be sent to Puerto Rico Department of Insurance. Applicant must send corporate resolution via mail or deliver in person for Designated Responsible Licensed Producer change.

Non-residents: Documentation is required to be sent to Puerto Rico Department of Insurance. Applicant must send corporate resolution via email to regulado@ocs.pr.gov for Designated Responsible Licensed Producer change.

Report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors

To report changes to Owners, Partners, Officers or Directors:  

  • Resident: Send the change request and a corporate resolution by mail to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance address below. 

  • Non-Resident: Report these changes by email to regulado@ocs.pr.gov. The request should include the name and title of the owners being added or removed. 

Understand residency type changes 

To report a change in residency, send a written request by email to regulado@ocs.pr.gov. The request should include the full name, license number and new resident state. 

If a resident changes domicile, their license is cancelled automatically. 

Exams and continuing education

Schedule an exam

To schedule a licensing exam, email a request to DPerez@OCS.PR.gov. The request should include the full name and exam or license type you’re requesting. The state will follow up requesting any additional required information.

Find exam score validity period

Insurance exam scores in Puerto Rico are valid for 12 Months.
