Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit surplus lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License Application.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.

  • Applicant may not have more than one active resident license on the Producer Database.

  • Applicants applying for Variable lines must be registered with an Oregon securities dealer.

  • Reinstatement/Reapplication Rules:
    • Applicants with a status reason of revoked or suspended may not reapply electronically.
    • Insurance Producer and Consultant applicants may reapply for a new license one year after expiration date. If within one year of expiration date, applicant must late renew through Non-Resident Licensing Renewal application.
  • Consultant applicants must provide proof of $500,000 errors and omissions insurance covering consultant activities.

  • Life Settlement Investment Agent and Variable line of authority applicants must supply a FINRA Central Registry Depository (CRD) number on the application.
    • Must have a securities license
    • If you need to verify your CRD number you may use the Broker Search feature found on FINRA’s website.
  • Life Settlement Investment Agent and Life Settlement Broker may not hold active licenses simultaneously.

  • Life Settlement Broker needs to have a Producer license with a Life LOA for at least 1 year and have an approved Anti-Fraud Plan

  • Managing General Agents, Reinsurance Intermediary Brokers, and Reinsurance Intermediary Managers must hold an active line of authority from the Insurance Producer class.

  • Personal Lines applicants may not actively hold or be applying for the casualty line of authority. Personal lines is included in the Casualty line.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.
