Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
- Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
- Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's No Home State License Application.
- Print Licenses Electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit major lines of authority.
- Submit limited lines of authority.
Business Rules
Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.
Individual applicants must provide a residence or business address that is not in the state of North Carolina.
Applicant must provide a valid business email address.
Applicants must not have an active resident state license on PDB in any state.
In order for an applicant to apply or reinstate for an Adjuster license the applicant MUST NOT have an active resident adjuster license on PDB (in any state).
Background questions must all be answered "No".
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
All non-citizen applicants will be pended for state review. Applicant must submit the appropriate work authorization or green card. Otherwise, required documentation can be submitted by following the instructions posted on the Department's website: http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_SubmissionOfLicensingDocumentation.aspx
Licensee cannot hold an adjuster license and a property, casualty, or personal lines insurance producer license in North Carolina. Licensees holding an insurance producer license with property, casualty, or personal lines of authority and applying for an adjuster license must surrender these insurance producer license types.
All Public Adjuster applicants must submit either a 20,000 bond or a letter of credit in the amount of $20,000 from a qualified financial institution." Completed original NC Bond-PA form must be mailed. Otherwise, required documentation can be submitted by following the instructions posted on the Department's website: http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_SubmissionOfLicensingDocumentation.aspx
Public adjuster license applicants must electronically submit fingerprints for a state and federal criminal history background check following the instructions posted on the Department's website. http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_PublicAdjusters.aspx
Exam Required. Please wait for an e-mail from Pearson Vue sent to the business email provided within the application. The e-mail will contain the information needed for you to make an exam reservation.
INITIAL EXAM EXCEPTIONS
- Adjusters that are applying for a different adjuster license than the one currently held
- Applicants whose resident NC license that went inactive within the last 90 days that are applying for the same authority on the no home state license as they held on their resident NC license (Applicable to all adjusters types).
REINSTATEMENT LICENSE EXAM EXCEPTIONS:
- Exam is not required for reinstatement of an adjuster license that has not been active for less than one year and has a license status of Cancelled with license status reasons of Suspended, Voluntary Surrender, Bond Cancel, Non-Payment, or Cancelled.
- In order for a Company/Independent Firm Adjuster, Hail Adjuster, Self-Employed Insurance Adjuster applicants applicant to apply through the No Home State application the residence address must not be in a state that licenses adjusters.
