License management

Apply for a license

To apply for a license in North Carolina, visit LicenseHub.
If you can’t apply for the lines for which you have qualified, contact the state to verify that they have received the exams and any necessary pre-licensing education completion information. Also ensure that they have reported this to NIPR with the correct last name, social security number and date of birth. 

Renew a license

To renew a license in North Carolina, visit LicenseHub.

If you can’t renew a particular line offered via NIPR, verify that the line is actively held in your resident state. If the line is not held, you cannot request that line via NIPR.

Cancel or surrender a line of authority

To surrender a license or delete a line of authority, submit a written request to NorthCarolinaLicensingOffice@Pearson.com or ASD@NCDOI.gov. The request should include the license and the signature from the licensee. If you can't locate the license, provide a signed statement listing which licenses you want to cancel, along with your full name and Social Security number.  

The Agent Services Division also accepts third-party cancellation requests for company-sponsored licenses.

Report a legal name change – individual or entity

To report a legal name change for an individual or entity, visit LicenseHub.

NOTE: A change of Federal Employee ID Number (FEIN) is not considered a name change and requires a new application for the new entity.

Report changes to Affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers

For changes related to affiliations or Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs), visit LicenseHub.

Report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors

To report changes to Owners, Officers, Partners or Directors, submit a written notification on company letterhead to:

Include the following details: 

  • Name and National Producer Number or Social Security Number of the new officer/owner 

  • Instructions regarding the previous officer/owner 

  • If the new owner is a business entity, include the FEIN
