Fee is based on the license duration. If the license duration is one year or less, a $50 fee will be assessed. If the license duration is greater than one year, then an $100 fee will be assessed.

Lines of Authority

Please note that license class names can vary by state.

  • NIPR verifies exams prior to allowing submission of an application.
  • Applications for Other lines of authority will defer to state for approval.

Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's No Home State License (NHS) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit major lines of authority.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must not have an active resident state license on PDB in any state.

  • Applicant must be eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth.

  • Individual applicants must supply a residence and/or business address that is not in New York. If residence and business address are in NY, the transaction will not be allowed.

  • If applicant is reinstating (relicensing) within two years of license expiration date the applicant is exempt from taking exams.

  • Applicants with Status Reason of “Cancelled” and has a future expiration date must reapply directly with New York Department of Financial Services.

  • Applicant is required to be fingerprinted. Please refer to the New York State Specific Requirements page for additional information on fingerprinting requirements - https://nipr.com/licensing-center/state-requirements/new-york-resident-licensing-individual. Applicant is required to submit a receipt from the fingerprint vendor. The fingerprint receipt may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse.

    New York DFS uses IdentoGO for live scan fingerprinting services. Learn more about Digital Fingerprinting on the IdentoGO website. Fingerprints are required for the following license types:

    • Independent Adjuster
    • Public Adjuster

    • Bail Bonds

    • Life Settlement Broker

  • New York does not have any additional/separate requirements for applicants who are non-citizens.

  • PO Boxes and Private Mailboxes (PMB) are only permitted in the mailing address field. PO Boxes and Private Mailboxes (PMB) are not permitted in the residence or business address fields.

  • Applicants with a status reason of ‘Revoked’ are prevented from applying if they are within 1 year of the date of revocation.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
