Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit adjuster for individuals electronically.
  • Submit Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) license application electronically.
  • Reinstate a license electronically.
  • Add lines of authority to an existing active license electronically.
  • Print license electronically.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must provide a valid residence address. Residence address may not contain a P.O. Box.

  • Non-citizens of the U.S. will be reviewed by the Resident state.

  • Applicants may reinstate through Non-Resident Adjuster Licensing one year after license expiration date.

  • Applicants must use Non-Resident Adjuster Licensing Renewals to late renew if they are applying within one year of expiration date.

  • Public Adjuster applicants shall file with OSI a surety bond in favor of the Superintendent in the aggregate amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000). The bond shall be one executed by an authorized surety insurer. The bond must be submitted to the Office of Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) office prior to or immediately after submitting the application through NIPR. Electronic submission required. Bond may be uploaded to NIPR's Attachment Warehouse additional licensing documents at the time the application is being submitted or emailed to Agents.licensing@osi.nm.gov.   • Staff adjuster applicants must list the name and NAIC Company Co-Code of the sponsoring Company.

  • Staff Adjuster appointments must be submitted online after the license is issued.

  • Adjuster Designated Home State (ADHS) Rules:
    • For an applicant to designate an Adjuster Designated Home State, during the application process, the applicant must have an active non-resident adjuster license and no active resident adjuster license.
    • If applicant holds an active resident non-adjuster license in a state that licenses resident adjusters, the applicant may not designate an Adjuster Designated Home State.
    • If the Adjuster Designated Home State license is inactive at the time of application, applicant may select another non-resident state with an active adjuster license as the Adjuster Designated Home State.
    • If Applicant wants to list New Mexico as the Adjuster Designated Home State, the Non-Resident License (No Home State) Application is required.
  • Public Adjusters cannot designate a home state.

  • Applicants who designate a home state must answer the following questions:

    • Did you qualify for this license type by passing an adjuster examination?
      • If yes, which state?
        • What lines of authority did the adjuster exam cover?
  • Non-Resident Adjusters are required to complete CE in their Designated Home State where they hold an active license and have a CE requirement; otherwise, they must complete New Mexico CE requirements. What state will you designate to complete CE?

  • Independent and Staff Adjuster licenses converted to the Property and Casualty LOA, with options to add Workers Compensation and Public Entity LOAs.
