Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
- Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
- Submits renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
- Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) application.
- Print license electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit a partial renewal. All Lines of Authority must be renewed.
Business Rules
Applicant cannot renew earlier than ninety (90) days prior to license expiration date.
Insurance producer applicants must be continuing education (CE) compliant in order to renew, unless CE is not required for the line of authority (LOA).
Applicants will be allowed to late renew electronically if the license is less than thirty (30) days past expiration date and the line of authority (LOA) has a status reason of expired.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
License Type Specific Qualifications
- All renewals for the Utilization Review Agent license must provide proof of approval or accreditation by URAC or NCQUA to the Nebraska Department of Insurance.
- All renewals for the Navigator license must pass federally-administered exam and provide certificate of proof, and notify the state of the entity Navigator with which they are affiliated and supervised.
- All renewal applications for Managing General Agent must provide proof of surety bond to the Nebraska Department of Insurance. Please fax documents to the state.
- Individual Surplus Lines renewal applicants must hold a Nebraska Insurance Producer license in order to apply for the Surplus Lines license class electronically.
- The Producer-PreNeed license is perpetual as long as they remain with the same seller.
- Viatical Broker applicants must be CE compliant if applicant does not hold an Insurance Producer license with Life line of authority (LOA).
Renewal Periods
- All License Classes
- Renewal Period: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration.
- Late Renewal Period: Up to thirty (30) days after expiration date
- Reinstatement Period: Thirty-one (31) days to one year past expiration.
Continuing Education
- NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date. It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.
- Continuing Education is waived for applicants who renew within one (1) year of their license issue date (excludes Public Adjuster).
Viatical Broker applicants must be CE compliant if applicant does not hold an insurance producer license with the Life line of authority.
