  • Fees are per application and are deemed earned when received and are not refundable, per KRS304.9-200(4).
  • Applicants renewing an Agent license that hold at least one (1) active appointment in Kentucky are not charged the renewal fee but are charged the late fee if the license is renewed past the expiration date.

Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit partial renewals

Business Rules

  • Applicants renewing variable products license must have an active Kentucky life line of authority (LOA) on the PDB.

  • Life agent registered as life settlement broker, reinsurance intermediary manager and reinsurance intermediary broker must hold an active agent life license.

  • Delays may occur if it becomes necessary to investigate administrative actions or background information listed on the application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Special Instructions

Renewal Periods

  • Applicants renewing an agent license that hold at least one (1) active appointment in Kentucky are not charged the renewal fee, but are charged the late fee if the license is renewed past the expiration date.  
  • Kentucky allows a grace period with late penalty fee. The late penalty will be applied the 1st day after license expiration date up until two (2) months after license expiration month.
    • ExpMth+0 = Expiration Month
    • ExpMth+1 = 1st day of month after license expire month (Late fee charged)
    • ExpMth+2 = 1st day of 2nd month after license expire month (Late fee charged)
    • ExpMth+3 = 1st day of 3rd month after license expire month (License cancelled. No renewal allowed. Applicant will have to apply as new)

  • All License Classes
    • Renewal Period: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date.
    • Late Renewal Period: Expiration date up to two months after expiration.
