Fees
Fees shown are state fees only. These fees do not include NIPR transaction fees.
- Fees are per application and are deemed earned when received and are not refundable, per KRS304.9-200(4).
- Applicants renewing an Agent license that hold at least one (1) active appointment in Kentucky are not charged the renewal fee, but are charged the late fee if the license is renewed past the expiration date.
- Kentucky allows a grace period with late penalty fee. The late penalty will be applied the 1st day after license expiration date up until two (2) months after license expiration month.
- ExpMth+0 = Expiration Month
- ExpMth+1 = 1st day of month after license expire month (Late fee charged)
- ExpMth+2 = 1st day of 2nd month after license expire month (Late fee charged)
- ExpMth+3 = 1st day of 3rd month after license expire month (License cancelled. No renewal allowed. Applicant will have to apply as new)
- An individual submitting insurance application or renewal fees who is the spouse of a current member of the Armed Forces of the United States who is assigned a duty station in the Commonwealth of Kentucky shall be eligible for refund of fees, pursuant to KRS 12:357. Upon notification to the Kentucky Department of Insurance, the fees will be refunded to the individual within thirty (30) days of their submission if the applicant demonstrates compliance with the requirements of KRS 12:357.
- To demonstrate compliance with KRS 12.357, an applicant shall include the following with their application:
- Proof that the applicant is married to a current member of the Armed Forces of the United States;
- Proof that the applicant's spouse is assigned to a duty station in the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and
- Proof that the applicant has satisfied all statutory and regulatory pre-licensing course of study requirements, and all statutory and regulatory examination requirements, or proof that the applicant holds a valid individual insurance license issued by another state, the District of Columbia, or any possession or territory of the United States.
- To demonstrate compliance with KRS 12.357, an applicant shall include the following with their application:

Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
- Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
- Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
- Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
- Print license electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit partial renewals.
Business Rules
Applications containing a non-uniform class or lines of authority (LOAs) will be deferred to the state.
Applicant must renew all lines under a license class. No Partial Renewals are allowed.
Non-resident applicants must maintain the LOAs they hold in KY in their current resident state in order to renew. If additional LOAs are held in KY than held in the resident state, the LOA must be cancelled prior to renewal using the KY Eservices System to complete a “voluntary surrender” of the LOAs through the established eServices account, or contact DOI.LicensingMail@ky.gov for assistance.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
