  • NIPR does not verify exams prior to allowing submission of an application, however, an exam is required prior to the states approval of the request.
  • Please note that license class names can vary by state.
  • Applications for Other lines of authority will defer to state for approval.

Applicant Can

  • Submit for initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must be eighteen (18) years old or older as determined from the applicant's date of birth

  • Employment history is required for all individual applicants for the past five (5) years contiguously with no gaps. This includes full and part-time work, self-employment, military service, unemployment and full-time education.

  • Applicant must not have an active resident license in any other state.

  • Applicant should not hold an active non-resident Kansas license while applying for a resident Kansas license.

  • There must be no serious RIRS actions or 1033 actions for the applicant. Please contact the state for any questions if applicable.

  • Excess Lines applicants may not hold an inactive Kansas Excess Lines resident license. If applicable, the application will be sent to the state for review.

  • Excess Lines applicants are required to hold an active Kansas Agent license class with Property and Casualty lines of authority (LOAs) on the Producer Database (PDB).

  • Excess lines reinstatements are allowed (1) day after the license expiration date if the license is inactive on the Producer Database through Resident License (RL) Application with no additional fees assessed.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Exam scores are valid for one (1) year from exam date. 

To surrender a resident insurance license, the agent should submit a written request, providing name and national producer number (NPN) directly to the Kansas Department of Insurance.
