Business Rules
- Business Entity applicants cannot use a Social Security Number (SSN) as their Federal Employee Identification Number (FEIN). Documentation will be required to validate the FEIN prior to approval. Submit an Employee Identification Number (EIN) Verification Letter (147C) issued by the IRS or any other acceptable document issued by the IRS verifying the FEIN by email to kid.licensing@ks.gov or uploaded to the attachments warehouse. This document is required for all business entity types, including sole proprietorship. To obtain a copy of the EIN Verification letter call 1-800-829-4933 (option 1 for English or 2 for Spanish) then option 2.

- Third Party Administrator applicants must submit TPA supplemental documentation to the Kansas Department of Insurance via the NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
- Applicants cannot actively hold or apply for Third Party Administrator and Self-Funded Third Party Administrator Registration at the same time.
- Third Party Administrator licenses are perpetual and will not have an expiration date.
- Self-Funded Third Party Administrator Registration applicants must submit TPA supplemental documentation to the Kansas Department of Insurance via the NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
- Applicants cannot actively hold or apply for Self-Funded Third Party Administrator and Third Party Administrator license at the same time.
- Applicants may reapply 91 days after expiration date.
- Each Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) listed on the application must be actively licensed in Kansas (resident or non-resident) as an Insurance Producer. Exception: The following license classes do not require a DRLP and can be left blank. However, a responsible person must be designated to receive licensing communications from the Insurance Department:

Business Entity licenses types reapply by submitting a new application immediately following the license expiration date, no late renewal period.

Applicants with a status reason of Revoked cannot reapply for a period of two years from the data the license was revoked

Kansas does not track or require Owner, Partner, Officer and Directors (OPOD) entries. This section of the application can be left blank for Kansas business entity applicants.

Business Entities with a license type of licensed producer (lines of authority held by employees, title, and self-service storage) cannot hold appointments directly with insurers. Instead, the individual employed licensed producers must hold direct appointments with the insurers for which they write business.

Business Entities that hold only the following lines of authority: Credit only, Car Rental only, or portable electronics only can be appointed directly by insurers for which they write business.
