Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for Surplus Lines for business entities.
  • Submit late renewals through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
  • Print licenses electronically.
  • Add new or delete an existing Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP).

Business Rules

  • DRLP RULES:
    • Insurance Producers, Certified Insurance Consultant, Surplus Lines, Casualty Adjusters, MVPD Appraisers, Surety Bail Bond Agent, and Public Adjusters require at least one active Designated Responsible Licensed Individual to hold the same license type but do not require lines to match.
    • At least one Designated Responsible Licensed Individual listed must have either an active PA 187 Travel or Insurance Producer license type with a Property, Casualty, Life, Accident and Health or Sickness or Personal Lines line of authority if applying for PA 187 Travel.
    • Actively licensed entities listed above may add new or delete an existing Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP).
  • Insurance Producers and PA 187 Travel applicants can renew up to one (1) year after the expiration date with additional fees. After one (1) year applicant will need to reapply through the Resident License (RL) Application. Late renewals for licenses with a status reason other than Non-Renewal are not allowed.

  • Insurance Producer Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with Variable Life and Variable Annuities
    • Applicants must supply the FINRA CRD in the application for Variable Life and Variable Annuities
  • Fraternal Agent Life LOA must be actively held or renewed in conjunction with Fraternal Agent Variable Life and Variable Annuities.

  • Surplus Lines applicants must actively hold Insurance Producer with single Property and Casualty lines of authority to renew.

  • Third-Party Administrator applicants must submit documentation to the Connecticut Insurance Department as required by Connecticut Public Act 11-58 38a-720. Surety bond amount is $500,000. Attachments for "Yes" responses to questions 1-5 should be attached to the NIPR Warehouse. 
  • Third Party Administrator/ Third Party Administrator and Third Party Administrator/ Third Party Administrator Registration cannot be renewed simultaneously.

  • Third Party Administrator - Registration applicants must submit the following document to the Connecticut Insurance Department: Registration application - Third Party Administrator (TPA) Registration. Documents may be uploaded to the Additional Documents section of the NIPR Attachments Warehouse

  • The application information will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. The applicant will receive email notification from the state once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for the approved license at: State Based Systems (SBS)

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via  NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
