Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for individuals electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Late renew through NIPR's Resident License Renewal (RLR) Application.
  • Submit a partial renewal. All Lines of Authority must be renewed.

Business Rules

  • Applicants are subject to continuing education (CE) requirements and are required to complete twenty-four (24) hours of CE with three hours of ethics before their license expiration date. Credit hours earned must be submitted directly to the Division by the CE Provider. CE is not required for limited lines licenses (credit, travel, title, portable electronics, bail bonds), persons holding a temporary license, or licensees who have not been licensed for at least twenty-four (24) months.

  • Applicant must provide a valid business fax number and email address.

  • All submitted phone numbers must be exactly 10 digits.

  • Any changes to the lines of the authority (LOAs) on the license being renewed must be made directly with the state division of insurance.

  • Applicants must renew all LOAs appearing as active on Producer Database (PDB) associated with applicant license class.

  • Variable annuities or variable life applicants must hold active life LOA before renewing.

  • Applicants applying for viatical settlement representative, broker or provider license must hold an active insurance producer license for life, variable annuity and variable life.

  • Applicant renewing Surplus Lines Broker must hold active insurance producer license with property and casualty LOAs prior to applying for Surplus Lines Broker renewal.

  • An individual licensed with a Title Insurance Limited Producer license class/LOA combination may not be licensed for any other license class / line in this state.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

  • Expiration dates generate pursuant to 3 AAC 23.860.The biennial renewal date for a firm licensee is based upon the firm's initial license date, as follows:

    • if the firm's initial license was issued in an odd-numbered year, the renewal date is the initial license date every odd-numbered year;
    • if the firm's initial license was issued in an even-numbered year, the renewal date is the initial license date every even-numbered year.
  • Applications not completed within four (4) months from the date filed will be considered withdrawn and new application forms and fees will be required pursuant to Alaska Statute 21.27.020(f).

  • Please Note: If licensee identifies that administrative action has been taken that has not been previously reported to this state or the licensee has had a criminal conviction or been charged with a crime, a statement of the circumstances and copies of the court documents must be filed for review. Administrative actions require the licensee to submit copies of the action or file the information through NIPR.com (warehouse of actions) for staff review and approval.

  • Third-Party Administrator (TPA) Applicant Requirements

    • All third party administrator renewal applicants must submit or be aware of the following requirements. Documents can be submitted using the mailing address referenced in the State Contact Information section.
    • Certified financial statements for the prior two (2) years prepared by an independent certified public accountant that establishes that the TPA is solvent and that the TPA’s system of accounting, internal procedure, and control in operating effectively to provide reasonable assurance that the money is promptly accounted for and paid to the person entitled to the money.
    • Attach a list of current insurers under contract.
    • A list of key employees that manage or supervise the TPA’s business in this state.

Renewal Periods

Electronic renewals will be available 90 days prior to the expiration date and will not be available after the expiration date. Applicant must reinstate using Resident Initial Licensing (RL).

All License Classes

Renewal Period Begins: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration.

Renewal Period Ends: Last day of birth month odd/even years

Continuing Education

NIPR verifies compliance with the states CE requirement prior to allowing submission of a renewal application. You may select your resident state on the following link: Verify My CE to view your CE transcript and determine whether the state has updated your status to compliant in their system and on what date. It generally takes up to 72 hours from the compliance date for the status to be updated in our system.

Applicants who have not held their initial license (license issue date) for at least 24 months prior to their first renewal date (expiration date) will be exempt from CE.
