Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit Non Resident Adjuster Renewal (NRAR) through Non Resident Renewal (NRR) application for business entities.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.
  • Renew partial lines

Business Rules

  • After one (1) year past license expiration date, applicant must reinstate through the Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.

  • Applicant cannot renew or reinstate license day one (1) through day three (3) after expiration date.

  • Applicant with a non-resident Utah license in an active or inactive status may not late renew electronically if status reason is canceled, deceased, denied, revoked, failure to maintain or surrendered in lieu of admin.

  • Applicants with the following status reasons may apply through initial applications at any time electronically: canceled.

  • There must be no serious:

    • Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
    • Special Activities Database (SAD) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
    • If so, please contact the state for assistance.
  • All Designated Responsible Licensed Producers (DRLPs) provided on the application must have an active license in Utah and must cumulatively cover the cost of the requested LOAs, excluding third party administrators (TPAs).

  • The DRLP on managing general agent applications must hold a resident or non-resident Utah managing general agent or producer license.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Renewal Periods

All License Classes

Renewal Period:

  • Starts: Ninety (90) days prior to expiration date.
  • Ends: Expiration date.

Late Renewal Period:

  • Starts: Begins four (4) days after expiration date.
  • Ends: One (1) year past expiration date.
