Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit partial renewals.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.

Business Rules

  • Applicant's Resident License must be on record.

  • No more than six (6) digits allowed for business phone number extensions.

  • At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and must have an active resident or non-resident license in South Carolina. The DRLP can be a licensed Insurance Producer or Surplus Lines Broker.

  • The following classes are not required to have a Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP): Service Contract Provider, Third Party Administrator, Premium Service Company, Utilization Review, Motor Vehicle Rental Companies, Portable Electronics, Self-Service Storage Facilities, and Pharmacy Benefit Manager.

  • Agencies renewing the Utilization Review license class are required to submit a Utilization Review Program to the South Carolina Department of Insurance. Please submit the required documents directly to the Specialty Licensing email address: Specialtylicensing@doi.sc.gov

  • Pharmacy Benefit Managers are required to submit the PBM State Specific Requirements Application in addition to the NIPR application. Please email the application and supporting documentation to Office of PBM Oversight at PBMDept@doi.sc.gov. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of PBM Oversight at (803) 734-0398.

  • Pharmacy Benefit Manager may reapply the day after expiration date when status is inactive.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse.
