Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
- Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
- Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's No Home State License Application.
- Print licenses electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Submit major lines of authority.
- Submit limited lines of authority.
Business Rules
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a license.
Applicant must not have an active resident state license on the Producer Database in any state.
Applicant must provide either residence or business address that is not in Puerto Rico on the application.
Applicant MUST NOT have an active resident or non-resident adjuster license on Producer Database (in any other state) in order to use the No Home State license application.
Non-U.S. Citizens must provide legal authorization to be employed in the United States. One of the following is acceptable and must be submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico:
- Employment Authorization, Visa, Work Permit, Green Card issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
- Puerto Rican Driver’s License
- Admission Record 1-94 and copy of valid foreign passport (applicable to emergency licenses only)
Important Note: Applicants for following adjuster licenses may not act on behalf of a business entity in Puerto Rico but may on behalf of a carrier with an NAIC company code. If the applicant will be adjusting on behalf of, or working for a business entity in Puerto Rico, the applicant must apply for an Authorized Person license for the same lines of authority as the business entity.
- Emergency Public Adjusters:
- Must not hold any other license type with Public Adjuster license.
- Are required to submit a $10,000.00 bond in favor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico. A copy can be submitted after application is completed to cumplimiento@ocs.pr.gov in order to process the license but original bond is required for it to become valid. Bond must be notarized. If notary is outside of Puerto Rico, a copy of the Notary's certificate from the Secretary of State must be provided with bond.
- Emergency Independent Adjusters:
- Must not hold any other license type with Emergency Public Adjuster license.
- Are required to submit a $10,000.00 bond in favor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance of Puerto Rico. - Emergency Independent Adjuster:
- Must not hold any other license type with Emergency Independent Adjuster license.
