Rules and Regulations
Applicant Can
- Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
- Submit major lines of authority.
- Submit limited lines of authority.
- Submit surplus lines for business entities.
- Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
- Print Licenses Electronically.
Applicant Cannot
- Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
Business Rules
Applicant must be one of the following legal business types:
- Corporation
- Partnership
- Limited Liability Company (LLC)
- Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)
- Sole Proprietorship – (Only for Limited Lines Travel Business Entity)
At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and must be actively licensed as a resident or non-resident in North Carolina. This excludes Auto-Rental Limited License, Self-Service Storage Limited license and Portable Electronics. All DRLPs must be licensed if provided in the transaction.
Applicant may not apply for or hold both a Corporation license and a Partnership license in North Carolina.
Applicant must provide a valid business email.
Effective July 1st, 2010, Each owner with 10% interest or voting interest, partners, officers and directors of Public Adjuster Business Entities are required to submit fingerprints and fingerprints must be electronically submitted for a state and federal criminal history background check. Please visit http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_PublicAdjusters.aspx for the necessary forms and instructions. A $38.00 fingerprint fee will be charged for each owner with a ten percent (10%) interest or voting interest, partners, officers and directors of the business entity.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
