Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's No Home State License Application.
  • Print Licenses Electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.

Business Rules

  • Applicant must provide a valid business email address.

  • Applicants must not have an active resident state license on PDB in any state.

  • In order for an applicant to apply or reinstate for an Adjuster license the applicant MUST NOT have an active resident adjuster license on PDB (in any state).

  • Background questions must all be answered "No".

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. .

  • All Public Adjuster applicants must submit either a 20,000 bond or a letter of credit in the amount of $20,000 from a qualified financial institution." Completed original NC Bond-PA form must be mailed. Otherwise, required documentation can be submitted by following the instructions posted on the Department's website: http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_SubmissionOfLicensingDocumentation.aspx

  • At least one Designated Responsible Licensed Producer provided on the application must be actively licensed as a public adjuster in the state at the time a public adjuster business entity application is submitted.

  • Applicant must be one of the following legal business types: Corporations, Partnership, Limited Liability Company or Limited Liability Partnership.

  • Licensee cannot hold an adjuster license and a property, casualty, or personal lines insurance producer license in North Carolina. Licensees holding an insurance producer license with property, casualty, or personal lines of authority and applying for an adjuster license must surrender these insurance producer license types

  • Business entity public adjuster applicants must electronically submit fingerprints for EACH key person of the business entity for a state and federal criminal history background check following the instructions posted on the Department's website. http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_PublicAdjusters.aspx.  A "key person" is considered an owner, partner, officer or director of the business entity, or member or manager of a limited liability company. The SBI Electronic Fingerprint Submission form must be sent to the state for review after the fingerprints are electronically submitted. Completed forms can be submitted by following the instructions posted on the Department's website: http://www.ncdoi.com/ASD/ASD_SubmissionOfLicensingDocumentation.aspx The Department must receive and review the criminal history background record for licensure decision. Please be aware that this may add additional processing time of up to 60 days.
