Business Rules

New Mexico requires all business entities (not including TPA, PBM or Self Service Storage Producers) to list and maintain at least one affiliate for the life of the license.
- Insurance Producer (exception: Self-Service Storage), Bail Bond Property, Independent Adjuster, Insurance Consultant, Limited Surety, Motor Club, Surplus Line Broker, Public Adjuster and Viatical Broker applicants must submit affiliate form and fees. Affiliation fees must be submitted via paper form. Form 202B can be downloaded from the state.
- If your Business Entity license is due for renewal and you are unable to renew online it may be due to not having an affiliate listed under the license. If you need to review the affiliates under the business entity license please visit State Based Systems. If you are unable to submit your Business Entity renewal online please contact the state at Agents.licensing@osi.nm.gov or call 855-427-5674.

Applicants may use Non-Resident Licensing Renewals to late renew if they are applying within 30 days of expiration date.

Applicants must reinstate through Non-Resident Licensing starting day 31 following license expiration date.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.

At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be listed on the application and have an active resident or non-resident license in New Mexico.

All DRLPs supplied on the transaction must have an active license (resident or non-resident) in New Mexico.

The DRLPs on the application must cumulatively cover all active lines of authority listed on the application at the time it is submitted for the business entity.
- Note: business entity licenses expire biennially on February 28th (29th on leap years).

Renewal Period: 90 days prior to expiration date – Expiration date of license
Late Renewal Grace Period (additional fee)- Day 1-30 after expiration. Starting day 31 following license expiration date the applicant must reapply through Non-Resident Licensing.

To terminate a Line of Authority- send a request to Agents.licensing@osi.nm.gov indicating your NM License number what LOA is to be terminated.
Exam scores are valid for 1 year from the passed Exam date.
No exam is required of an applicant for a license covering the same kind or kinds of insurance as to which licensed in this state within 1 year preceding date of application for the new license, unless the previous license was suspended, revoked or continuation thereof refused by the superintendent
