Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit surplus lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate through NIPR's Non-Resident License Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Business Rules

  • Non-citizens of the U.S. will be reviewed by the state. Applicant must provide proof of Visa, Work Permit or Green Card to state of New Mexico. Fax documents to the Office of Superintendent of Insurance Producer Licensing Bureau (505) 827-4373 or email them to  Agents.licensing@osi.nm.gov.

  • Non-resident to Resident - Exam Waiver - Information may be found on OSI website Moving to NM.

  • Resident to Non-resident information may be found on OSI website Moving out of NM.

  • Applicants may reinstate through Non-Resident Licensing one year after license expiration date.

  • Applicants must use Non-Resident Licensing Renewals to late renew if they are applying within one year of expiration date.

  • All Bail Bond licensing information may be found on OSI Website.

  • Applicants applying for Variable life and Variable Annuity or Fraternal Variable Life and Variable Annuity must hold an active life license and must supply a FINRA Central Registry Depository (CRD) number on the application. If you need to verify your CRD number, you may use the BrokerCheck feature found on FINRA's website.

  • Motor Club applicants must list the name and NAIC Company Co-Code of the sponsoring Company.

  • Motor Club appointments must be submitted by the Company, online after the license is issued.

  • Applicant cannot hold a license for Personal Lines and Property and Casualty at one time. If an Applicant holds Property and Casualty, Personal Lines falls under those Lines of Authority.

  • Current title holders will automatically receive the Escrow Line of Authority (LOA) in addition to their Title LOA. Future applicants can take exams for Title, Escrow, or both, and will receive the corresponding LOAs.  

  • New Lines of Authority for Insurance Consultants, including Fraternal, Fraternal Accident and Health, Fraternal Life, and Fraternal Variable Life and Annuity, will apply to the same license types. Exams are not required.

  • Please submit supporting documents and all other required documents electronically via NIPR's Attachment Warehouse or submit to the state via mail, email, or fax.
