Applicant Can
- Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
- Submit major lines of authority.
- Submit limited lines of authority.
- Submit surplus lines for business entities.
- Submit Non Resident Adjuster License (NRAL) through Non Resident License (NRL) application for business entities.
- Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
- Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License Application.
- Print licenses electronically.
Business Rules
Applicant's name, license number, state of residence, and Tax ID must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.
Applicant must provide a valid country code.
Applicant may not apply for a license in their own resident state.
Reinstatements are allowed if license is in an inactive status and has been expired for more than one (1) year and one (1) day after expiration date.
Viatical Settlement Broker and Provider re-applications are allowed the day after expiration date.
Maryland does not license sole proprietorship.
With the exception of 'other' lines, applicant must have an equivalent active resident license when applying for a non-resident license.
Surplus Lines Broker applicant should hold both Property & Casualty LOAs under Insurance Producer license prior to submitting the Surplus Lines Broker application.
At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must have an active resident or non-resident license in Maryland.
Applicants with a Cancelled license status must contact Maryland Insurance Administration directly if attempting to re-apply.
Insurance Producer Title applicants must email a copy of the original bond(s) or other required documentation directly to the Maryland Insurance Administration. The email address is producerlicensing.mia@maryland.gov. Please visit the Maryland Title for additional information.
The DRLPs provided on the Insurance Producer and Surplus Lines application must cumulatively cover the LOAs on the application.
If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail or fax. All other required documentation must be forwarded directly to the state.
