  • NIPR verifies exams prior to allowing submission of an application.
  • Applications for Other lines of authority will defer to state for approval.
  • Attention Maine Applicants:
    • If you are unsure of what license or line(s) you should apply for, please verify before continuing with the application. You may apply for multiple lines at the same time; however, please note that the license application will not be processed until qualifications for all authorities on the application are met. Avoid these common errors, which may result in non-refundable payment of fees.
      • Applicant marked the incorrect line of authority when completing the application.
      • Applicant completed two identical applications.
      • Applicant applied for a license they are not required to hold.

Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for individuals electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit surplus lines for individuals.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Resident License (RL) Application.
  • Print Licenses Electronically 24-48 hours after approval via www.maine.gov/insurance.

  • Producers can print licenses electronically 24-48 hours after approval via www.maine.gov/insurance.

  • Attention Maine Applicants:
    • If you are unsure of what license or line(s) you should apply for, please verify before continuing with the application. You may apply for multiple lines at the same time; however please note that the license application will not be processed until qualifications for all authorities on the application are met. Avoid these common errors, which may result in non-refundable payment of fees. 
      • Applicant marked the incorrect line of authority when completing the application.
      • Applicant completed two identical applications.
      • Applicant applied for a license they are not required to hold.
  • Applicant can qualify for the Multi-Peril Crop line of authority (LOA) under the adjuster license class by either taking the multi-peril crop exam or showing proof of passing the federal exam. If the federal exam was taken, the applicant must submit a paper application to the state.

  • Amendments of license are allowed for applicants that are in active status.

  • Applicants for the Variable Contracts Line of Authority must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

  • Variable contracts applicants must actively hold or be applying for Producer Life license or must actively hold a Producer with combined Life and Health line.

  • Surplus Lines producers must submit a Surplus Lines Bond before their license can be issued. The form can be found using the link: sl_producer_bond.docx (maine.gov)

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
