Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for business entities electronically.
  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for business entities.
  • Submit Non Resident Adjuster Renewal(NRAR) through Non Resident Renewal (NRR) application for business entities.
  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Renew partial lines.

Business Rules

  • Agencies are required to update their affiliations via the Louisiana Department of Insurance Industry Portal. Instructions are available at http://ldi.la.gov/industry/insurance producer-adjuster/appointments-affiliations

  • Partial renewals are allowed for active lines of authority (LOAs) during renewal cycle. Please note: applicants are not allowed to renew lines that were not previously renewed under same license.

  • Louisiana will allow late renewal of a LOA if:

    • LOA status is inactive.
    • Current date is less than two (2) years past.
    • LOA status date with a status reason of lapsed.
  • DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION UNLESS ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION FOR ANY DISCLOSURES IS ON HAND AND READY TO SUBMIT. If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, supporting documents should be submitted electronically via NIPR's Attachment Warehouse.. All supporting documents must be uploaded to the Attachment Warehouse prior to but no later than the date of application submission to be considered timely disclosed. APPLICATIONS WITH "YES" ANSWERS WITHOUT COMPLETE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED AS OF THE DATE OF APPLICATION ARE SUBJECT TO BEING CLOSED AS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE.  YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REAPPLY.

  • Supporting documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.  If the applicant chooses to submit via mail, e-mail or fax, the documents must be submitted to the Louisiana Department of Insurance that same day as the license application and must include the transaction number and the applicant's name. Documentation submitted via mail must be postmarked within 24 hours of application submission.

  • Upon license issuance and renewal, all Claims Adjusters licensed in Louisiana are required to read and acknowledge the claims adjuster standards of conduct provided in La. R.S. 22:1674.1 Your acknowledgement will be captured in a Louisiana state-specific question in the initial and renewal application submission.   • Applicant must reapply through Non-Resident Licensing (NRL) if applicant holds an LOA with an inactive status that is more than two (2) years past LOA status date with a status reason of lapsed or LOA is inactive with status reason of cancelled.

  • Exceptions to NRL reapplication policy:

    • LOA status must be in inactive.
    • Current date must be less than two (2) years past LOA status date with a status reason of lapsed.
  • Applicant can not reinstate portable electronics LOA, they must contact the state to reactivate license.

  • Please note that before an Producer Agency license with portable electronics LOA will be issued, a list of Louisiana business locations must be submitted to the state either by email, fax, or mail.

  • At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be listed on the application and have an active resident or non-resident license in Louisiana. Except for the portable electronics and self-storage LOA.

  • DRLPs provided must cumulatively cover the LOAs on the application and must be affiliated with the agency that you are completing the renewal application for.

  • DRLP does not need to be licensed in Louisiana on applications for the Portable Electronics LOA and the Self Storage LOA but must be listed on the application.

  • DRLPs last name must match the National Producer Number (NPN) on the Producer Database (PDB), if applicable.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax. Documentation must be submitted within thirty (30) days after submitting application or the application will be declined.
