Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit initial license for business entities electronically.
  • Submit major lines of authority.
  • Submit limited lines of authority.
  • Submit surplus lines for business entities.
  • Submit Non Resident Adjuster Licensing (NRAL) through Non Resident License (NRL) application for business entities.
  • Add lines of authority (amend) to an existing active license.
  • Reinstate/reapply through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.
  • Print license electronically.

Business Rules

  • Please confirm through Producer Database (PDB) that each Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) does hold an active license in Louisiana. If the DRLPs are not already licensed in Louisiana, the business entity license application will be declined.

  • DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION UNLESS ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION FOR ANY DISCLOSURES IS ON HAND AND READY TO SUBMIT. If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions, supporting documents should be submitted electronically via NIPR's Attachment Warehouse.. All supporting documents must be uploaded to the Attachment Warehouse prior to but no later than the date of application submission to be considered timely disclosed.APPLICATIONS WITH "YES" ANSWERS WITHOUT COMPLETE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED AS OF THE DATE OF APPLICATION ARE SUBJECT TO BEING CLOSED AS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE.  YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REAPPLY.

  • Supporting documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.  If the applicant chooses to submit via mail, e-mail or fax, the documents must be submitted to the Louisiana Department of Insurance that same day as the license application and must include the transaction number and the applicant's name. Documentation submitted via mail must be postmarked within 24 hours of application submission.

  • Upon license issuance and renewal, all Claims Adjusters licensed in Louisiana are required to read and acknowledge the claims adjuster standards of conduct provided in La. R.S. 22:1674.1 Your acknowledgement will be captured in a Louisiana state-specific question in the initial and renewal application submission. You may read review the standards of conduct on the Louisiana Department of Insurance website at https://www.ldi.la.gov/industry/producer-adjuster/license-application

  • At least one (1) DRLP must be on the application and have an active resident or non-resident license with Louisiana. Except for applications for the portable electronics and self-storage lines of authority (LOA).

  • DRLPs provided must cumulatively cover the LOAs on the application.

  • DRLP last name must match National Producer Number (NPN) on PDB if applicable.

  • New non-resident applications are accepted electronically. Amendments to existing licensees and reinstatement of license two (2) years after expiration date adjusters as long as status reason is lapsed are also accepted electronically. Please do not attempt to reinstate an inactive non-resident license, which has been expired for less than two (2) years, using this program, unless the status reason on the license is anything other than lapsed. If applicant previously held a license in Louisiana that is now lapsed, applicant must late renew that license using the renewal product. If applicant's Louisiana license has been lapsed for two (2) years, or if the Louisiana license has been inactive for any reason other than lapsed, applicant may, only then, submit an application through Non-Resident Licensing (NRL) that will be processed as a new license application.

  • If portable electronics LOA is inactive, applicant must contact the Louisiana Department of Insurance to reactivate license.

  • If insurance producer applicant LOAs are inactive and have been inactive for less than two (2) years with a status reason of lapsed all transactions will be referred to Non-Resident Renewals (NRR) for late renewal.  

  • Before an Producer Agency license with portable electronics LOA will be issued, a list of Louisiana business locations must be submitted to the state Department of Insurance

  • Before an Producer Agency license with self-storage LOA will be issued, an insurer certification must be uploaded to NIPR Attachment Warehouse or submitted to the state Department of Insurance

  • Applicants for title authority have special requirements. Please review the Louisiana DOI website for more information and the required affidavit. The affidavit can be uploaded to the NIPR Attachment Warehouse.

  • Applicants for public adjuster authority must submit an original surety bond to the Louisiana Department of Insurance. The bond form is available on the Louisiana DOI website. Note that each notarized signature requires two witnesses. The notary cannot be a witness. Incomplete bonds will not be processed and will not be returned.
