Fees shown are state fees only. These fees do not include NIPR transaction fees.

  • All fees are charged per application.
  • If the current date exceeds the expiration date, insurance producers must apply via the Non-Resident License (NRL) Application and pay double the normal license fee until twelve (12) months have transpired since expiration. After twelve (12) months, insurance producers must apply for a new license through the NRL application.
  • LOA renewal fee is prorated only if the LOA expiration date is greater than the license expiration date. If the LOA expiration date is less than or equal to the license expiration date, there is no prorating the $50 fee.

Rules and Regulations

Applicant Can

  • Submit renewals for major lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for limited lines of authority.
  • Submit renewals for surplus lines for individuals.
  • Print licenses electronically.

Applicant Cannot

  • Late renew through NIPR's Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) Application.
  • Submit partial renewals.

Business Rules

  • Effective July 1, 2023, the Department will no longer accept paper applications. All applications must be filed through NIPR.com and all fees must be paid through EFT in the NIPR.com system. Any paper apps received on or after July 1, 2023, will be mailed back to the sender. Any applications received late as a result of submission of a paper application being returned will be the responsibility of the applicant and all lapses in licensure and any penalty fees for late submission will remain in place.

  • The Illinois Department of Insurance will be phasing out renewal reminders at the beginning of January 2024. NIPR has a free app that can be downloaded by all producers for iOS and Android devices that can be set up to send automatic reminders prior to license expiration dates. The Department requests all licensees to utilize this free services.

  • If applicant holds both Motor Vehicle line of authority (LOA) and Property LOA, only the renewal of Property LOA will be allowed. The Property LOA includes Motor Vehicle.

  • Limited Lines Producer license class can only be renewed by a company during the annual appointment renewal period for Illinois.

  • Illinois only allows amendments to an insurance producer license if the license is active. The applicant must meet the pre-licensing and exam requirements to apply for requested lines of authority (LOAs).

  • There must be no serious:
    • Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
    • Special Activities Database (SAD) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
  • If so, please contact the state for assistance.

  • Applicants whose license expired within the last twelve (12) months must reinstate that license through NIPR's Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.
